About this product
Description
The powerful M12 self-propelled gun is the result of adapting the chassis of the popular M3 Lee medium tank to handle a 155 mm gun. The design process proved long and lasted from 1941 to 1944. In the meantime, the produced test units were repeatedly rebuilt. Interestingly, the Cargo Carrier M30 was also designed at the same time. It was a version of M12 without a cannon, serving as an ammunition carrier. For each M12 self-propelled cannon there was one M30 ammunition carrier, which also carried part of the crew operating the M12 cannon. M30 conveyors did not have a blade at the back of the hull stabilizing the vehicle during shooting. M12 self-propelled cannons were used mainly to support the manoeuvring operations of armoured troops, combat targets of tactical importance, support infantry fire and prepare artillery in the direction of impacts.
